ESRC and SSPEL
The Economic and Social Research Council approached me last week to act as a referee on the second phase of their research funding into Public Services Management. The refereeing process is a voluntary undertaking. It was fascinating and rather time consuming task to undertake. I cannot go into any of the details as the process is strictly confidential. Nevertheless, it was striking that SSPEL could be a player in the ESRC research game if and when the right sort of project opportunities arise. The ESRC develops frameworks for research opportunities that relate to key political issues of our time. The role of the school in the widening participation agenda would be an obvious candidate here. We shall have to keep alert to the opportunities offered by the ESRC.
